ABRUPTUM (SWEDEN)

Abruptum was formed in 1989 by IT and All. IT had planned to create the band already in 1987 but it wasn't until 1990 that he found the right member to do it. What ABRUPTUM lack in song structure they make up for with a tendency to be rather heavy on unnerving screams and avant-garde rhythms and noises. The band's reputation is almost enhanced with tales that It is alleged to be one of the prime movers behind the Satanic Black Circle movement. Prior to forging ABRUPTUM, It had fronted the Finspang based Crossover act BREJN DEDD, a unit releasing three demos. In 1990 Abruptum recorded two demos which were the February 1990 demo 'Hextum Galaem Zelog', after which bassist Ext was discarded, and an August 1990 session 'The Satanist Tunes', the latter would be dedicated to "The superior, unholy ancient one - Thy one without name or shape", with a warning to potentially parsimonious purchasers of "No used stamps OK!" These early recordings had already molded ABRUPTUM's trademark Black Noise sound, proto-Sludge riffing laden with reverb and heavily reliant on keyboard atmospherics.  After the release of a 7" EP All began to drink heavily and was forced to leave the band. IT then found a new member in Evil from the young band Marduk. A third demo was issued, the exceptionally rare October 1992 session 'Orchestra Of Dark'. The Deathlike Silence Productions label, owned by MAYHEM leader Euronymous, put out the inaugural full-length album, 'Obscuritatem Advoco Amplectére Me', in 1993. Of interest is the fact that ABRUPTUM's second album, 1994's 'In Umbra Malitiae Ambulabo, In Aeternum In Triumpho Tenebraum', consists solely of one hour long song.  As IT left the scene completely after several events within the circle and threats to him and his family, Morgan continued the band on his own, and decided to put an end to Abruptum in 2005.
