BRUTAL TRUTH (USA/NY)

BRUTAL TRUTH, New York Grindcore exponents with a definite thirst for speed, would be created during a lull in NUCLEAR ASSAULT activities during 1990 when the distinctive figure of lanky, mop topped bassist Dan Lilker, previously with high profile Thrash outfit ANTHRAX and spoof offshoot act S.O.D., assembled a band to indulge his love of Hardcore. Recruiting guitarist Brent McCarty and drummer Scott Lewis the line-up was finalized with the addition of vocalist Kevin Sharp. Early demo recordings made by the band whilst still a trio were issued on the bootleg EP 'The Birth Of Ignorance' on Liberated Records. In time, Lilker split from a flagging NUCLEAR ASSAULT to concentrate fully on BRUTAL TRUTH. With Lilker's pedigree a deal was quickly on the table and the band signed to grindcore exponents Earache Records for their debut October 1992 Colin Richardson produced effort 'Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses'. Opening with the 33 second burst of 'P.S.P.I.', BRUTAL TRUTH careered through the most ferocious Grindcore yet to be committed to tape, all punctuated by anti-capitalistic vitriol, disturbing narrative and industrial sound samples looted from an array of construction tools. A 1992 7 " single 'Ill Neglect' also saw the light of day featuring a raucous cover of THE BUTTHOLE SURFERS 'The Shah Sleeps In Lee Harvey's Grave'. There was a half-assed second BT demo that was just a good sounding rehearsal called "At The End Of The Day, Speed Is Everything", but it had no artwork.
