GENERAL SURGERY (SWEDEN)

General Surgery was formed in late 1988 by: Matti Kärki: drums, vocals; Jonas Derouche: guitar; Grant McWilliams: bass; Richard Cabeza: lead vocals. The band was an outlet for the members at that time to musically profess their love for Carcass and grindcore in general. After losing and gaining several members, a relatively stable line-up was found for recording their first demo (and the following one), "Erosive Offals" in March of 1990. The members at this time were; Richard Cabeza: lead vocals; Joacim Carlsson: guitar; Matti Kärki: bass, vocals; Mats Nordrup: drums .
Later, the same demo was re-recorded at the "legendary" Sunlight studio, this time with new lyrics and titles, called "Pestiferous Anthropophagia". After this Rickard left the band and Grant was once again in the band. A rehearsal demo was recorded shortly after this, and in November of 1990 their EP, "Necrology" was recorded, also at Sunlight studio.

EROSIVE OFFALS 1990 DEMO

Recorded by Mk.2 early 1990 in 4 hours at Sveasträng Studio, contains no 2nd guitar track due to severe lack of time. Distributed in some 5-10 copies at the time. Production similar to a certain influential debut recording by a British band with a gore obsession... It's brutal, but crap. ½-inch master reel for this session inexplicably gone. And no, there was no DAT copy. This was true grindcore - where DAT tapes were strictly for posers. Xerox 3 panel covers. Recorded onto regular tapes.

PESTISFEROUS ANTRHOPOPHAGIA 1990 DEMO

First 'official' recording by Mk.2. Made about a month later than the first, at the highly esteemed Sunlight Studio with goremaster Tomas Skogsberg giving us a better production than the first demo. Quality highly improved since 1st demo, directly related to the extended studio time - in this case upped to a generous SIX hour span. It made all the difference. Edition limited to roughly 50 copies. Despite the different song titles, this demo is essentially the same as the prior one. The reason being that Grant McWilliams was yet again called back into the ranks to re-write and up the lyrical content. Issued with green or blue sleeve. White studio tapes with stickers. Has lyrics

Recorded on a piece of crap 4-track tape recorder in our freezing rehearsal room. All tracks were done live with vocals overdubbed (by McWilliams) afterwards. Where the whistling came from is still an uncovered mystery. It's there on the tape though. Removed from the official release... all 20 of them. Recorded onto regular tapes and Xeroxed
