MACABRE (USA/IL)

Chicago's MACABRE are noted for their ultra-extreme music, dubbed by the band as 'Murder Metal', based around an almost obsessive theme of serial murderers. MACABRE is rounded out by bassist Nefarious and Dennis The Menace on drums. MACABRE opened their own perversely primordial little shop of horrors in 1987 with the Decomposed Records EP 'Grim Reality', by which early stage the serial killer fetish was already much in evidence with odes to Ed Gein, Albert Fish and the Son of Sam set to a blizzard of Punk and Grindcore. Ingeniously the track 'Mass Murder was in fact a triptych of instrumentals, 'Sulphuric Acid' being a guitar solo, 'Morbid Curiosity' a bass solo and naturally 'Lethal Injection' a closing drum solo. 1987 demos dubbed 'Shit List' worked their way to 7" single status in 1988, subsequently re-issued by Gore Records in 1990 as a limited run of 777 copies pressed on white vinyl. Meantime, UK label Vinyl Solutions had issued the full-length 'Gloom' opus. MACABRE's appreciation for the world's most loathsome examples of humanity and now extended to incorporate expressions of admiration for Harvey Glatman, David Brom, Patrick Purdy, Fritz Haarman and the elusive Green River murderer.
