NOCTURNUS (USA/FL)

Nocturnus was formed in Tampa, Florida back in 1987 by drummer/vocalist Mike Browning, bassist Richard Bateman & guitarists Gino Marino and Vince Crowley. The band recorded their first self-titled demo "Nocturnus" on a 8 track reel to reel machine. After Vince quit Nocturnus 1988 to start his new band Acheron, he was replaced by Gino`s cousin Mike Davis. Richard Bateman was offered the bass position in Nasty Savage. Friend of Mike Davis, Jeff Estes replaced Bateman. Keyboardist Louis Panzer joined in September 1988, which added another dimension and completed the Nocturnus sound. They were one of the first bands to do technical death metal using horror themes in their music. In 1988 they released ‘The Science of Horror’ demo produced by Savatage singer Jon Oliva. This demo caught the eye of Digby Pearson at Earache Records in Nottingham, England and subsequently they were given a record deal.
