SORORICIDE (ICELAND)


Sororicide, an Icelandic death metal band, was founded in 1990 by Gísli Sigmundsson (bass/vocals) and Guðjón Óttarsson (guitar). With the addition of guitarist Fróði Finnsson and drummer Karl Ágúst Guðmundsson, with its first live concert in June of that same year. Immediately, Sororicide exploded onto Iceland’s aggressive rock scene, gaining recognition after winning a national band contest under the name Infusoria. Soon after, the name was changed back to Sororicide and the band acquired a new vocalist, Bogi Reynisson. In the autumn of 1991, the band entered the studio to record its debut album, The Entity. It was released in December by the Icelandic record label Platonic Records. Positive reviews streamed in, with Sororicide even earning the title "Album of the Year" by Iceland's largest newspape. In September 1992, shortly after the release of the Apocalypse album, guitarist Fróði and drummer Karl left the band, with both pursuing di erent musical directions. The remaining members recruited guitarist Arnar Guðjónsson and drummer Unnar Bjarnason, completing the band’s current line-up.
